Philip Glass - Prophecies

DEFINE NECESSITY
Probably the most beautiful and haunting track from Glass's sublime soundtrack to Godfrey Reggio's groundbreaking 1982 movie 'Koyaanisqatsi'. The prophecies of the Hopi tribe of Native Americans are sung in baritone over a simple recurring thme played on a church organ. The title of the movie, a Hopi word, means 'life out of balance' and the movie sought to show how it is happening as mankind veers further away from the natural world. Ironically, the biggest casualty is mankind itself. In a world where human life has less value than money, power and oil.......what price human dignity?
